1. Let Mascara Dry Before Moving To The Next Step
One of the biggest mascara missteps is not letting it dry before you start with the rest of your makeup. After applying a coat, you should wait about 15 seconds without blinking to let mascara dry thoroughly. Otherwise, it’s too easy to end up with smears of smudges that can mess up your whole look.
One pro tip: Apply mascara to the bottom lashes first, let them dry, and then move to the top lashes. You’ll be less likely to smear or transfer mascara to the area around your eyes this way.

2. Keep Your Eyelashes Healthy
Eyelashes are hair, and just like the rest of your hair, they don’t mind getting a gentle cleaning and moisturizing to keep them looking healthy.
When you wash your face, make sure to gently cleanse your lashes; make sure clean out all the “eye crusties” that may get caught in them in the morning. In the evening, apply a light coat of petroleum jelly or use an eyelash conditioner.

3. Use The Right Mascara For Your Needs
Mascaras that promise to do it all, typically don’t do any of it that well; the ingredients needed to make lashes longer, thicker or better defined don’t always work well together.
Instead, use a mascara that gives the look you’re going for. If you want to curl your lashes, use a curling mascara which has resins and waxes to help hold the curl. If you’ve got short lashes, go for a lengthening formula; it will have nylon fibers that extend your natural lash.
If you need to, buy a few different brushes for different looks. Spiky plastic bristle will help separate lashes; a bushy brush will give a thicker look.
4. Use The Right Technique For Maximum Coverage
If you want to get better, more even coverage with your mascara, this trick should help you:
Apply your mascara starting by the root end the lash and while drawing toward the tips, wiggle the brush gently back and forth. This way, you’re not just applying makeup to the bottom of the lash, but also to the sides. That means more coverage for thicker, sexier lashes.
It takes a little practice to perfect this technique, but you’ll love the difference it makes!
5. Curl First
If you use an eyelash curler, you should do so before you apply your mascara. It helps open your eyes, making it easier to apply mascara closer to the roots so you get much better coverage.
For proper curling technique, apply the curler as close to the roots as possible, and squeeze for four or five seconds. Then, move halfway down the lash, and squeeze again for a second or two.
