Many women suffer from the outward appearance of cellulite on the skin. This problem has to do with the structure of your skin’s connective tissues. These connective tissues naturally form in a pattern of repeating hexagons, keeping fat under the skin in separate compartments. Sometimes, the fat overruns the capacity of those compartments and bulges outward toward the surface of the skin, causing skin to appear lumpy.
Fortunately, there are ways to reduce the appearance of cellulite without expensive surgical procedures or products. The tips and techniques outlined in this article probably won’t make your cellulite disappear completely, but they can help to significantly reduce its appearance.
1. Get Plenty Of Antioxidants
Make sure to eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of foods rich in antioxidants. Good choices include fruits such as red grapes, apples, and tomatoes; vegetables such as carrots, beans, and russet potatoes; nuts such as hazelnuts, walnuts, and pecans; and berries such as blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries.
Why is this important? Your body needs antioxidants to defend itself against free radicals. Free radicals damage all your cells, including skin cells. Damaged skin cells are more likely to show off your cellulite.
2. Drink Green Tea
Not only does green tea contain powerful antioxidants, it has also been shown to boost your metabolism, helping you lose weight. For both of these reasons, drinking green tea can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Aim for about 3 cups of green tea every day.
3. Work Out Regularly
In addition to watching your diet, make time in your weekly routine for regular workouts.
Getting regular exercise boosts your circulation and helps to burn off your body’s stores of fat. It can also improve the tone of the muscles under your skin, which can help make cellulite less obvious.
4. Eat Healthy Fats
In addition to antioxidants, your diet should also include plenty of omega-3 fatty acids. You can get them from foods such as nuts, flax seeds, oily fish like mackerel and salmon, and fish oil supplements.
5. Get Rid Of Toxins In Your Body
Toxins that have built up in your body can contribute to the appearance of cellulite by damaging the dermis (a layer of the skin).
Limit your intake of substances that contain these harmful toxins, including coffee, alcohol, tobacco, and processed foods that contain lots of sugar and added chemicals – or avoid these substances completely. To get rid of the toxins you already have in your body, be sure to drink lots of water every day.
6. Care For Your Skin
Use an external skin treatment, such as a coffee scrub, twice a week to help stimulate circulation and reduce visible signs of cellulite.
To use one of these treatments, begin by getting the affected area of skin wet under the shower. Turn the water off, spend a few minutes rubbing the coffee scrub or other treatment into the skin, and then rinse the scrub off.
7. Take Herbal Supplements
There are herbs that can help improve the appearance of cellulite. For example, dandelion leaves help the body expel toxins and reduce its retention of fluids. You can use dandelion leaves to make tea, put them in salads, or add them to fresh juices.
Ginkgo biloba also has a reputation for reducing the appearance of cellulite. It is made from the dried leaves of the ginkgo tree and improves circulation.
