Is there anyone in the world who actually has perfect, even skin tone? It seems we all seek it for one reason or another: redness from blemishes, dark circles under our eyes, or even dark spots caused by age or pregnancy can seem to sabotage our quest for an even complexion.
While a good skincare regimen, proper nutrition and plenty of sleep will do wonders for anyone’s complexion, there is absolutely no reason not to make the most of what you have at the moment by covering up the flaws with makeup. The proper application of concealer and foundation can have truly amazing results.

1. Choose The Right Foundation For Your Skin
This first step to flawless skin is your foundation makeup – choosing the right one is the most important part of an even skin tone.
Choose the wrong foundation and you can end up looking clownish or caked on. But when you pick the right one, you’ll find that evening out blemishes or dark spots is easy.
There are so many different shades and tones of foundation now, finding one that matches you skin is much easier than it used to be – good news, no more “mask effect” where you make up ended along the sides of your face! But when you choose a foundation, do make sure to test it on your face; many people make the mistake of testing it on their wrist, leading to inaccurate matches.

2. Use A Makeup Primer Before Your Foundation
If you have fine lines or wrinkles (don’t we all?), you may have been dismayed to find your foundation settling in and making them more noticeable. Nip this problem in the bud by applying a makeup primer to help “fill in” the lines before you apply your foundation.
In a pinch, you can use a moisturizer instead – it will help, but not quite as well as primer. Either way, don’t wait too long before applying your foundation and concealer, you want to do it before the primer is completely absorbed by the skin.

3. Enhance Your Eyelids
Applying a thin layer of foundation to your eyelids can be more important than your eyeshadow. The simple application of a base helps to even out your complexion, making eyes stand out.
In this case, it’s best to use a base that is formulated for the tender skin around the eyes.
4. Don’t Forget About Concealer
It’s an age-old discussion – do you use concealer before or after foundation? We think that it’s best used after foundation, to cover any blemishes that weren’t already hidden by foundation. That way, you aren’t using as much concealer, and don’t have to worry about that “caked on” look.
Experiment with different types – liquid, powder, oil based, brush applicators, or even stick. Find the one that works right for you.
