Why are gorgeous nails so difficult to grow? One reason may be because our nails are actually dead tissue – which means that if we were talking about living tissue our body would do all the hard work for us. As it is, we have to give our nails a helping hand to make sure they’re strong and healthy looking.
You may be left wondering if nails are made from dead tissue then how do they grow? The answer lies in the fact that the new tissue developing behind the nails pushes the dead tissue out onto the surface of our fingers – creating that perfect flat surface we all take great delight in decorating and polishing.
Follow these tips to have perfect looking nails every day:
1. Treat Your Nails To A Massage And Conditioning
Olive oil is rich in vitamins and nutrients so feed your nails by dipping and soaking them in a small amount of olive oil for about 5 minutes. You nails will absorb the nutrients which in turn promotes nail growth.
After you have sufficiently dipped and soaked gently massage the oil into the nail beds to stimulate the blood supply for healthy strong nails.
2. Give Dieting A Rest
Dieting may shed the pounds but it also prevents your nails from growing. If nail growth has slowed to a crawl it may be time to up the calories slightly to get them going again.
3. Eat Lots Of Protein
Given that nails are created from protein, it stands to reason that you could achieve healthier nails by adding more protein rich foods to your diet.
Lean poultry, beef, pork, and fish are all good candidates for the dinner plate as is spinach, and other leafy vegetable varieties which are known to contain healthy quantities of protein.
4. Eat Foods Rich In Biotin
Biotin is a treatment for a variety of afflictions – including hair growth, diabetes… and brittle nails.
Biotin is naturally available in foods such as liver, leafy green vegetables, peanuts, and raw egg yolk but many prefer a supplement as their source.
Biotin is not a solution for faster nail growth but instead will make them more durable so there is less chance of breakage. This is a great way to ensure your nails have the best chance of growing long and strong.
5. Stimulate Your Blood Circulation
A body that has a good blood circulation will improve nail growth. One of the best ways to improve your circulation is to get up and move.
Make sure you are getting plenty of exercise. Even seemingly small tasks such as knitting or cheering enthusiastically for your favorite basketball team all help to improve circulation and help your nails grow.
6. Protect Your Nails
If you’re going to be investing so much time and energy into perfect nails, then it pays to make sure they are protected.
Wear gloves when you’re preparing the vegetables for dinner. Rubber gloves will also help your nails avoid contact with harsh dishwashing detergents and other household cleaning goods which can potentially compromise the integrity of your nails and break them down.
Cold temperatures can also cause havoc with nails as it causes them to dry out – so make sure you always wear a warm pair of gloves when braving the colder temperatures. Another interesting fact is that nails also grow better in warmer temperatures.
