1. Store Mascara In A Dry, Cool Location
Mascara should be stored in a cool, dry spot – which means most of us are doing the worst thing possible by keeping it in the bathroom.
A better choice is in a drawer in your bedroom, so heat doesn’t cause the formula to thicken and cause clumps. Just make sure it’s not close to a radiator or anything else that will heat it.

2. Apply Mascara With A Wiggle
For full coverage and even distribution of mascara, apply it by starting at the root of the lash then gently wiggling the wand back and forth as you move toward the lash tip. Practice makes for perfect, clump-free application.

3. Don’t Dawdle!
When you paint a wall in your home, it’s important to move quickly, or the paint starts to dry – and applying wet paint over semi-dried causes smearing and streaking.
The same thing happens with mascara – once the mascara touches your lashes, you need to move quickly to get it spread to the tips before it starts drying and clumping.
4. Wait For A Minute In Between Coats
By the same token, make sure you allow each coat of mascara to dry completely before you apply the next. Trying to apply a second coat on top of a still tacky first coat is a recipe for clumps and smears.
5. Prep Your Lashes
You can help prevent clumping before you even open your mascara by simply applying a light dusting of baby powder first. Lashes will be less likely to clump and will get super plumped!
6. Use A Light Touch
Instead of applying a heavy coat, mascara will look best if you apply several thin layers, so make sure you aren’t overloading the brush.
Wipe excess off the application wand against the edge of the container, or use a piece of paper towel.
7. Always Start With Clean Eyelashes
It should go without saying, but we’re going to say it anyway – if your lashes still have remnants from last night’s mascara on them, today’s mascara is not going to look good.
Remove all of the previous day’s makeup before you start making up for today! A clean fresh face will always give the best results.
