Although acrylic nails look beautiful and can be more durable than natural nails, but they always need fill-ins and replacements, which can be expensive.
That being said, you can make your acrylic nails last longer and avoid unnecessary visits to your nail salon by following these five tips…
1. Never Use Acrylic Nails As Tools
Acrylic nails were not made to be used for mechanical tasks, such as scraping sticky substances off of surfaces, opening the tabs of beverage cans, or picking small items up off the floor.
If you often use your acrylic nails as levers, scraping tools, or to pick things up, the glue holding them on will start to weaken.
2. Put On Gloves To Do Housework
We know putting on rubber gloves adds an extra step to your household chores, but it’s well worth it. Every time household cleaners get on your nails, the acrylic deteriorates a bit more.
To make sure your manicure lasts as long as possible, wear rubber gloves to protect your nails every time you do any kind of housework, including cleaning the bathroom, doing the dishes, or even giving the dog a bath.
3. If You Do Lots of Manual Labor, Get Shorter Acrylic Nails
If you often work with your hands, you’ll be much better off with a shorter manicure. Even typing counts as manual labor – it puts pressure on your nails, which can build up over time and eventually cause nails to break.
Having relatively short acrylics can help reduce the amount of stress your fake nails have to endure.
4. Use Moisturizer On Your Nails And Fingers Every Day
To help the skin on your fingers maintain an ideal moisture balance, apply moisturizing lotion to your fingers and nails every day, paying special attention to the area around the cuticles.
While you’re at it, massage your fingers and hands briefly to improve their circulation. Doing all this keeps your natural nails in good health.
5. Keep Your Fingernails Clean
Every day, use warm water and a gentle and soap to clean your acrylic nails. Afterward, remove bacteria and dirt from your cuticles and under your nails by cleaning those areas with a nailbrush.
Finally, use a soft towel to dry your nails and hands thoroughly.
