Many women love getting manicures at nail salons because it makes them feel pampered and pretty. However, manicures can be truly damaging to your nails.
If you regularly visit a salon and your nails have become brittle, it may be because of the acrylic that is used in many salon manicures. Dry and brittle nails can also occur as a result of an unhealthy diet without enough vitamins and nutrients, or improper moisturizing.
If you have dry, brittle nails and you are ready to do something about it, here are 5 natural home treatments that can help you solve the problem on your own.
1. Vegetable Oil
Vegetable oil can be used to moisturize your nails, and is a great treatment for dry nails.
Use a cotton ball or a q-tip to apply the oil to your nails and massage it in well. Repeat this process up to 4 times per day until the problem is gone.
2. Apply A Mixture Of Lemon Juice, Olive Oil And Honey
For this remedy you want to go heavy on the honey and light on the olive oil and lemon juice. Mix a tablespoon or so of honey with a very small amount of lemon juice and a drop or two of olive oil.
Every night before bed, use a q-tip to apply this concoction to your nails. You will be amazed how well this cure works!
3. Do Not Forget To Moisturize Your Nails!
If your nails are already dry and brittle, you may have given up on moisturizing. Don’t give up! Some creams are designed to build stronger nails and encourage nail growth, but you can use any type of hand cream for its moisturizing properties.
Any time your hands are in water be sure to moisturize them afterwards. Consider adding a container of lotion to your bathroom sink to get yourself in the habit of moisturizing your hands often.
4. Make Sure To Include B Vitamins In Your Diet
If your nails are dry and brittle, adding a B vitamin complex to your daily regimen can do wonders for your nails. Biotin in particular is one B vitamin that assists you in growing nails that are healthy and thick.
Eggs, bananas, peanuts, liver, lentils, mushrooms and cauliflower all contain biotin. If you add a B vitamin complex to your regimen it may take awhile for it to start working, but keep taking it and you will definitely see results within a few months.
5. If Your Nails Are Dry and Brittle, Keep Them Short
Keep dry, brittle nails short to reduce your chance of breaking or cracking a nail. After your nails are healthier, you can grow them longer again.
